Behind The Lens
Location
This is in Sequoia National Park near Visalia, California! This is not far off the beaten path, I was part of a facebook photography group and we went along taking pictures. I got a bit adventurous and climbed rocks, swung from trees... well I was trying to get a new look from the regular tourist.Time
This was taken mid morning to early afternoon.Lighting
I always take as-lit photographs, although i'd like to point out that it is highly processed in photoshop for maximum contrast to bring out the black and whites.Equipment
This is taken with a handheld Sony Alpha65 mid-range camera, the lens was a 1.8f 50mm and the usual polarizing filter I use to my detriment sometimes!Inspiration
A fallen tree, the decay and brokeness of it really inspired me, the light slightly blocked by standing trees and the bleached out look after processing, it brought out the fibrous nature of the wood and the cracked trunk in some places. It was difficult to find an angle that brought it all out, what I intended to be seen a forgotten "relic" a fallen giant ...something like that ;)Editing
As usual in my pictures I stare at the image and move the levels left to right to get what I want and the color saturation and hues and then I whammy it to black and white and finally I contrast it to get rid of greyspace!! Oh i did do some dodge and burn in shadows. MUAHAAHAHAH!In my camera bag
basically a camera, batteries, a macro with bellows, a fisheye, a 50mm and a light tripod, I'm not really into telephotos yet.Feedback
As with trees try to bring out the grain either in the angle you choose or the post processing.
