Location
This photo was taken at my son's home in Putnam Illinois. He lives out in the county and has a beautiful flower garden. I was out chasing my granddaughter to get photos of her.Time
It was mid-morning, my granddaughter Emma wanted to go outside and play. It was a bright, sunny summer day. I was walking around snapping pictures of my granddaughter. The have a big beautiful yard filled with trees and flowers.Lighting
The light outside was perfect, bright blue skies, very sunny. I was watching Emma and I happen to turn around and there was this big beautiful Monarch Butterfly. It was like he was waiting for me. I just started snapping away.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon T3, my very first digital camera. I used a 70-300 lens and I did have my flash on.Inspiration
Just the beauty of it, I love all of Gods creations!Editing
The original version of this photo was very pretty, I had to just sharpen it up a tad. I decided I wanted to play around with it a little and in the editing system I use I was able to take the color out of the photo and then put it back where I wanted it. I had no clue at the time that this photo would be one of my favorites. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon T3 and T3i cameras, along with my Canon 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS, Tameron SP10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5, Canon 18-55mm macro 0.25m/0.8ft. I also have my Speedlite 90EX flash, extra batteries, extra SD cards. I have my tripod that I carry with me all the time. I know a lot of people say I need a full frame camera, but I love the way these two cameras work.Feedback
I had a photographer from this site tell me this, "Always be prepared, never go anywhere without your camera, because excellent photo opportunities do not just happen, you need to be prepared!" It was wonderful advise, I never go anywhere without my cameras. I am an amateur, but I love doing what I do. To be able to go out and capture a moment in time, is an amazing thing. I love it when you get that special photo, you pull it up on your computer and you see what you have captured, it is like Christmas morning and you just got the thing you wanted most in the world! Always have fun!
