Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo on north beach in San Francisco, CaTime
This photo was taken at sunset. However, during this time there were many photographers taking sunset pictures and i wanted to be mindful and respectful but i knew that i would only get this chance one time. To say the least i think i made a few of them mad by walking in front of them to get the shot but in the end the client loved the picture.Lighting
Lighting was a key element in this shot. I made sure that the sun was not in my lens to help with flare. The sun is actually to the left of the frame and about head height. I also knew that i would have to slightly over expose the shot due to a possible silhouette.Equipment
I used a Nikon D800E with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR2Inspiration
originally i wanted more people in the shot as bystanders and i wanted to capture them in a moment in time. But when i moved the the bride and groom into position everybody thought they had to move, i told them that it was ok. well by the time that i got to the spot where i would shoot everybody had moved except for this little girl. either way my original idea is somewhat in tact.Editing
I did some post processing in light room and then exported it into photoshop to clean up a lot of bird poop on the ledge. And i add a duo tone of blue and yellow. In my camera bag
I normally keep a Nikon D800E , Nikon 70-2002.8 , a sigma 50 1.4, and a nikon SB800 speed light.Feedback
1)Keep it simple. Sometimes as photographers i think we tend to over think lighting by using 2 or 3 or even more lights. In this case i only use natural light. 1)simple content, All i have is the bride, groom, small child, sunset and That's it. 3)Be Resourceful, use your surroundings and use what you have, the best shots are never in the best places. But knowing how to frame your shot is important.
