The photo was taken in my country were i live. I visited the zoological garden in Leipzig/Germany.Time
It was on the late afternoon in autum.Lighting
I used only the natural light of a cloudy sky. A little bit of sun was shining through the clouds, so that i had a kind of a directed lightsource.Equipment
I shot this picture without a tripod or something. Just using my Canon EOS 60D, a light teleobjective 70-200 mm L without IS. The settings were ISO 320, aperture of 7.1 and 1/200 s.Inspiration
I love flamingos, the colours they have and the specific shape but separated they are not easy to capture. I was waiting for this nice position of one single animal outside his group.Editing
I just decrease the exposure worth, that the rest of the background getting pure black. Some details - like the legs and feet - stayed. With lightroom, i increase a bit the light and the whitetones to work out this effect of shining. In my camera bag
I have not the large arsenal, i just have the middleclass 60D with a 15-85mm IS Objective and a 70-200 mm tele. For long time caputures i have a mantona tripod with ballhead and a remotecontrol.Feedback
Have the courage to tryout. Don´t stop capturing if the daylight getting weak. Use this special lightsituation for pictures they will different to daylight shots. Distance blur and bokeh are not the only ways to crop some subjects. Use less light for the background and let your software do the rest.
