Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my dining room table. I took this photo for a Photography class and it turned out to be one of favorite photo's that Ive taken.

Time

I took this shot mid afternoon my dining room table is in a place where I have five windows of natural light coming in so I found it easy to accent my Strawberry. Its's my favorite place to take still shots.

Lighting

The lighting in this shot was all natural window lighting

Equipment

I have a Canon Rebel XSI I used a tripod and my 75-300 lens. No flash was used

Inspiration

I love Strawberries and have always loved the way colour pops on black. I have always thought that it was a classy eye catching look.

Editing

I shot in Manual mode with custom white balance jpg. I bumped up the saturation one hair only nothing else.

In my camera bag

I don't have anything fancy. I own my 18-55mm , 50mm, and 75-300mm. I would love to own a 70-200 lens In my eyes that would be my dream lens for my pet photography portraits. But I also belive that if any good, great or just starting out photographer is capable of taking a great shot with the simplest of lenses. Just don't over annualize. If the subject caught your eye take the shot. I love the fact that you can take a simple lens like a 35mm lens and have great results like Linda McCartney used!

Feedback

Advice? Well I feel natural lighting is always the most flattering now thats just my opinion . Studio lighting is great too and I know I used to model. But if you have access to natural lighting use it. Work with it. Practice Practice, Practice. I took lot's of shots of my strawberry because the light was continually changing. It took me a little while to get the shot I liked. So when pepole say patients is a virtue they mean it. Use a tripod and a remote. I used 100 iso. I used black stones from the dollar store and spent 10 -15 min scowering over the strawberries in the store looking for the perfect one. I also carry a note pad on me so that when I get crazy idea's on the go I like to make a note then pick out the idea that jumps out at me the most. Sometimes I lay a wake at night just thinking of different shots too try. Sometimes I think people who are photographer's don't know how to turn their brains off at night cause they are always thinking of how to do it better next time or how to get a more creative shot. lol I know I do anyway. Good Luck
