Behind The Lens

Location

Taken from the St Kilda Board walk in Melbourne on a late afternoon walk with the family.

Time

Taken in the late afternoon golden hour, with the cloud towards the horizon thick enough to show the suns outline without blocking it out completely, and diffuse the colours and the waves on the bay just carrying a subtle hint of the skys' colours.

Lighting

the lighting was definitely helped with the "golden hour" and sun being so low to the horizon.

Equipment

This was taken with my trusty Canon 650D and EF-S 55-250mm kit lens.

Inspiration

Seeing the sky light up orange (which also happens to be my favourite colour) and the silhouette of the hills and wispy cloud really caught my eye and begged me to capture it.

Editing

I was lucky with this shot that it only required some minor tweaks with the exposure and levelling the horizon with Photoshop.

In my camera bag

My kit consists of my Canon 650D and 18-55 and 55-250mm kit lenses, a nifty fifty and a EF 55-200 USM II lens, only the basics till i can work myself up to the Full Frame world.

Feedback

Melbourne weather presents so many opportunities for photographers from sunrise to sunset, and plenty of vantage points around the Port Phillip Bay to capture both. The St Kilda Pier is definitely a good vantage point, or even from the esplanade with the Pier silhouetted against the setting sun
