Location
This is Mabry Mill in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. It is one of the most iconic spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway.Time
This was taken on a very frosty February morning, around 8:00 AM. The sun had not been out long enough to melt the ice off of the wheel yet.Lighting
I was really glad to have just enough sunlight to make a reflection in the pool, but not so much that the sunlight overpowered the image.Equipment
I actually took this with a Sony DSC-HX7V. This is just a good, basic point and shoot that I take with me when I can't carry my other camera and equipment.Inspiration
I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway, and travel it frequently on my motorcycle. The Parkway provides many great photo opportunities, and popular spots like this one are often so crowded that it is hard to get a good shot. However, I had the place pretty much to myself on this icy winter morning.Editing
I really didn't do a lot of editing to this image, just some cropping and slight color correction. In my camera bag
I normally have my Nikon D7100, as well as a backup point and shoot. I carry several lenses, including a Nikkor 18-55mm, a Nikkor 55-200mm, and a Tokina 12-24mm. I always have my Manfrotto monopod/ hiking stick with me when I am taking landscape photos, and I take along a 3pod tripod too.Feedback
Get up early. Go to popular spots in the "off season". Never leave home without a camera!
