I took this photo while on the school run, the nursery had some new plants and flowers donated to the school to brighten up their front garden for the younger children to admire and I wanted to take some of the tulips as they were so pretty before sticky grabby fingers got to them. This one was perfect as the petals where all even and undamaged.Time
This taken at mid afternoon the flower was already in some shade but the sunlight was enough to give life to the petals over the top of themLighting
It was mid afternoon daylight on a September day so the sun was quite low in the sky but it was a clear day so there was good light stillEquipment
I used my basic 600D Canon camera and that was it.Inspiration
I like the elegance of the tulip shape and the way the petals fold over each other, it has more depth in the flower with its layers of petals but its not a busy as a rose can be sometimesEditing
In post processing I darken the image and also boost the highlights I also changed the colour of the tulip from red to purple as I preferred the purple with the blue black back ground I think it gave a good contrast while not looking fake.In my camera bag
I normally carry in my bag my Canon 5D with the standard 24-105mm lens and either a macro lens or a telescopic lens depending on where I am going and what mood I am in.Feedback
I enjoy working with natural light and though its more difficult to contend with it also will throw up some surprises and some amazing images. There is something to be said for just going out there and snapping away i feel it allows for a freedom of expression which controlled light spaces doesn't. I am not a "by the book" photographer and just popping out with your camera and taking what catches your eye can be an extremely liberating experience
