Location
I captured this image of Cathedral Lake and Cathedral Peak while in Yosemite National Park. It was about a 4 mile hike back to this spot.Time
I arrived here at the lake about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, leaving me enough time to scout out the spot I wanted to be for sunset. When I arrived, there were some stunning cloud formations making me dream of a epic sunset, but in classic Yosemite nature, things changed and it did so in a hurry. By 5pm I had found my spot high above the South side of the lake clinging to the side of a granite wall and all those great clouds had vacated the area leaving me this single cloud.Lighting

I tend to be a minimalist when it come to gear, as it gets heavy. Here I used my Nikon D7100 with a Nikkor 10-24mm attached to it. I had this sitting on top of my trusty tripod and I utilized a cable release to do the heavy lifting of tripping the shutter.Inspiration
If you have ever been blessed enough to spend some time in Yosemite you know what my inspiration is, God's grandeur! In my feeble attempts I try to capture a bit of that grandeur, to bring back home to show others who can't or won't take what it takes to see such scenes. Some days I do a better job than others.Editing
This is a HDR image, as when the sun was bathing the summit of the peak the lake was in a very flat light giving me 2 different exposures. So, I blended the 2 images in PS to create this image. I also saturated the image a bit as well, maybe a bit more than I'd like, one of the things sometimes I notice with seeing an image with "Fresh eyes" as it has been 3 years since I captured/edited this image.In my camera bag
I tend to be a minimalist when it come to gear, as it gets heavy and I'm lazy by nature. So, I carry a Nikon D7100, with 2 lenses. One is my Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 and the other is a Nikkor 10-24mm. I find myself shooting in low light situations and with long exposures so I use a cable release to help create the sharpest images possible. I always utilize my trusty carbon fiber tripod with a sturdy Arca Swiss ball head on attached to ensure nothing will be moving during those long exposures. That's it. Thats all that is in my bag, I just have learned how to maximize the equipment I have.Feedback
I have been at this professionally for nearly 20 years and it took me a years to get over my "Lens Lust", wanting every new piece of glass and newest and latest trinket that supposedly was to make my images better. It just got expensive and heavy, and never really made my images any better over night. So, I paired my camera bag down to just the essentials in my opinion and focused on learning how to make the most of them. The more I just got up out my my comfy bed or sleeping bag at O'dark thirty or stayed out till the wee hours of the morning, I found my images were getting better just by doing it. I also learned how to be self critical of my work. I would think to my self, would Art Wolf show this image to anyone? If that answer was no, then I'd figure out why not and how I would do it differently next time till I got an image that I thought he would be proud to display.
