Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, I went there for the day on the 2nd January 2013 so it was a new year for me, and with a new beginning a new start with the camera. So instead of looking for normal shots i was looking for different perspectives of normal objects.

Time

This photo was on of the first photos that i did take this day where it was around about 10 in the morning, as I was one of the first to arrive there was not many people around in the center so instead of heading straight out i decided to take a few pictures first.

Lighting

The lighting for this shot is all artificial lighting coming from ceiling lights as well as a few spot lights cominng from behind me which were apart of the building

Equipment

With using a 550D and a 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 lens with hand holding the camera to get close enough to the wall. no Flash or Tripod was used and i used a fairly slow shutter speed at 1/10 sec at f5.6 and a ISO 3200.

Inspiration

As I was travelling and just really got into photography I had been on Viewbug and had seen a competition for Stairs so when I saw these stairs I thought that it would be a good shot, The reason I got really close to the wall was to give a different perspective of the stairs and used the wall to lead into the stairs itself.

Editing

I have not actually done any post-processing on this photo at all.

In my camera bag

The first thing that i do pack when I am travelling is my 28-70 2.8 lens although this lens is old lens it still has amazing glass and works wonders while travelling as it is a great versatile lens. The next thing I pack is my 5Dmk3 which i have just upgraded from the 550D so it was a big step up but well worth it. After this I pack my 70-200 2.8 IS which if i want to do more distance things like birds or even a portrait this lens is great.

Feedback

I think that one piece of advice that I would give to capturing something similar to this is dont be afraid to look a little bit silly when taking a photography, In this photo i was up squished up against the wall and looked a bit twisted but the photo came up really well. Another time i was in Copenhagen and lying on the ground in the middle of winter on the Nyhan and everyone was like hope your comfy, It wasn't but i got a really good picture from it so I was happy.
