Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture at the road to Marshall's Pass, CO.

Time

9/25/2014 at 4:30 pm My friends and I were 4-wheeling in the area looking for beautiful autumn colors. This lake was very impressive when we were close to it, but it was much better at the point of overlooking the lake.

Lighting

It was perfect lighting. Just about 40 minutes before the sunset. It showed all the best colors.

Equipment

I used my Nikon 5000, with Tamron lens. I had to zoom it as much as possible.

Inspiration

I really love how the yellow trees were reflected in the calm water of the lake. The lake itself looked like impressionistic painting with mix of reflected colors. Yellow and green are my favorite ones. The fall of 2014 in Colorado was absolutely gorgeous. Usually we have lots of yellow colors, but this year I saw yellow, orange, pink and green leaves on aspens; sometimes all 4 colors on the same tree.

Editing

It is a square cut from a larger picture. Not really much of editing after all.

In my camera bag

My camera is not the most expensive one. But still it is capable for most of my tasks. I carry 2 lenses, one is for far shots like this, with a nice zoom; and another one for close-up images or portraits. Tripod is very helpful for dark places.

Feedback

My advice for taking a similar picture: go 4-wheeling! You will find lots of natural beauty, as well as spirit of adventure and get some adrenalin in your blood.
