Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in Flamborough, Ontario, Canada at a private lake residence.

Time

It was about 9am and I was on my second trip to a clients house to do some renovating.. After my first trip I made sure I had my gear ready and prayed for a bit of sun.

Lighting

Nothing really special about the lighting. Mother nature provided all of it.

Equipment

I shot this on a D300 and was using my 18-105 kit lens, which after alot of testing and comparison is actually sharper than some of my pro lenses.

Inspiration

I started out as a landscape shooter, so as soon as I saw the property my client lived on, I was determined to get this shot the next time I came up to do some work. ( I'm a general contractor)

Editing

My workflow usually starts by importing to lightroom for some quick adjustments, usually just exp./ sat. and sharpness, then I manually make 5-9 exposures and combine them in Photomatix, and then a final touch up, dodge n burn and unwanted leave and debris removal in CS5...

In my camera bag

Being afraid I'll not have the right lens I usually carry a plethora of gear in my bag (Monty Hall would lose large). I always carry 2 bodies and a 40mm macro, a 50mm prime, a 70-200 vr 2.8, an 11-16 Tokina ATX pro and my trusty 18-105... Plus all the bits we photogs cram into our bag that we never use.

Feedback

Shoot early or shoot late but midday sun is a killer on all fronts, colour, contrast, and exposure. A sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release also contribute to a sharper final image. This image was shot at F.8 which is the sweet spot on the 18-105.
