Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in park Menai in Bangor north Wales whilst i was photographing local forests. At this time i was developing my practice whilst i was doing my art foundation year.

Time

This piece of work must be one of my favorite images i have produced from north wales which i took around 8 20 AM before i started my day at college. I had been looking for a while for a forest which i could be at the right time when the sun was coming through the tress to find that perfect contrast and lighting to make the perfect image.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect when i took the photograph where the sun was highlighting the trees and the sun was directly behind one tree creating a shape of sun raise in the photograph which i believe makes the photograph.

Equipment

Nikon D3000, 18-55 lens, iso 100, F3.5

Inspiration

I was developing my practice and learning new aspects of my camera at the time and had always waned to photograph forests using different times of day for different exposures of lighting. I looked at the area and at the time in foundation we where making a short stop motion and thought to my self i would document areas for scenes we could use and the sun was striking this particular area. I was mesmerized by the lighting of the sun and i had to document the beauty that the forest where portraying.

Editing

no i had no post processing of this photograph

In my camera bag

The first thing i make sure i Have is my nikon D3000 18 - 55 lens i like this camera because it does the job its not the best camera out there but i do enjoy using it. I have recently bought a Nikon d300s and i am adjusting to using it but i tend to take both of my cameras out together. I always have my tripod on me for those long exposures its a Hama profil duo 3. The last two items that i take with me would be my tamron AF 70 -300 tele-macro its not the best but it does what i need it to until i can afford a new one. Last of all is my old film camera a miranda ms-3 which i enjoy using to photograph a bit of everything with to have that nostalgic look related to the photographs.

Feedback

North wales has all the beauty that you would need for photographing nature at its best but the only problem would be like any where in Britain is the weather. If I was given advice for some one that was trying to capture something similar it would be your timing to be in the area you want to be at the golden hour either to be there for sun rise or be ready for the sun set. The other piece of advice that i would give you that i have learned as a photographer would be to plan your day that you have researched the area that your ready to go bright and early and know the area you need to find to capture the idea that you have in your head.
