Location
This photo was taken in Monument Valley.Time
My dad and I hired a guide (really the only way to shoot Monument Valley) and so early in the morning (probably around 5am) in the dark he led us to a fantastic vantage point so we could shoot the sun coming up.Lighting
The angle of the sunrise created the shadows in the sand, making the "waves" in the sand more apparent. Shooting this area any later we would have lost that contrast.Equipment
For this photo I used my old Canon 50D.Inspiration
I had seen so many movies and photos featuring Monument Valley so my dad and I decided to go and explore. It was such a fun trip and one that I will always remember as a great memory with my dad.Editing
I increased the contrast and had to brighten it up a bit because of the dark spots, but other than that I did comparatively little to this photo. In my camera bag
Of course I always have my camera (I now use a Canon 60D Mark II). I always take my 50mm prime lens, a zoom lens, and a wide angle. I also always have my lens filters and hoods, and brushes and wipes to help wipe off dust (I live in Arizona and shoot in sandy situations often). Lastly I always have extra batteries and memory cards.Feedback
Get a guide! I don't know how we would have ever found any of the places that our guide took us. It was well worth the money and we had a great time getting to know him and learning about the area.
