In New Hampshire one of the most favored times of the year is the transition of Summer to Fall. The mountains take on a patchwork quilt like appearance, bursting with bright reds, yellows, oranges and if your lucky you catch these pink hues. This photo was taken on Spectacle Pond, Meredith, NH during the very early start of the Fall colors. I have found that most " leaf peepers" wait until the news tells them we are at peek foliage before converging on our state. In my opinion its actually the early Fall that I get the best saturation and variety of colors with the leaves still fully on the trees creating an almost fantasia effect.Time
It was early morning just after sunrise and the previous nights rain had let up that I grabbed my gear and headed to the pond. Knowing after years of chasing colors that it would be the time to capture these intense colors and the pond would be settled.Lighting
Indirect sunlight adds to the colors saturation along with the fullness from the rain the early process of photosynthesis shines through. Once I get over the overwhelming glory of it all I began to snap away.Equipment
Using my Olympus I was able to capture this brief moment in time. The foliage is a finicky sort and the trees will have many obstacles in their way to complete the full process, many years hit by the cold or frost to fast, ending the season with a swift leaf drop.Inspiration
My love of being on the woods and experiencing all the of our four seasons I'm always ready for a hike. When you learn nature you begin to instinctively know what conditions are more conducive to a successful shoot.Editing
This shot was sharpened , contrast and lighting played with a bit to help bring out the beauty of the experience best I could. In my camera bag
Most days I have an old tool bag with a few different cameras, lenses and a bag of navy beans. Tripods are much to restrictive for me when in the woods so a bag of dry beans works best for me. Set them just about anywhere and they will level and stabilize your camera beautifully.Feedback
If your looking to be a " Leaf Peeper" trying to capture all the spectacular colors of New Hampshires foliage season dont wait for your weatherman to tell its time to come here. Their aways about two weeks too late to capture the fullness and true colors of Fall so plan ahead and come early.
