Behind The Lens
Location
Along the Embankment in London along the Thames. Throughout the year street entertainers Perform there. This chap was part of a group of dancers, they totally captivated the passing people.Time
It was about midday in the summerLighting
I love natural light so a good clear summer day was great for capturing the facial expression.Equipment
I use a nikon d5000. I have a few lens but on days like this I tend to use my 70-300 to allow me To get natural facial expressions without people knowing. No flash was used and for this I was just free holding My camera so I could just mingle around the peopleInspiration
The look on the peoples faces are what I wanted to capture. To highlight the focus (the dancer) but then be drawn to look At each and every face.Editing
Clear to see really, quite simply converted to black and white using photoshop and then brought the colour Of the dancer back through using layersIn my camera bag
Nikon d5000, the standard lens and a 70-300mm. Spare battery never want a day cut short because Your camera battery lags before you do! Same goes for storage, I normally have a 32gb and 16gb available. Lens cleaning kit. Painkillers! Rain anorak. Lens hood.Feedback
For this type of thing when capturing people it is giving yourself the best chance of the shot you want so on this day I moved round the busiest places in London and when I saw someone I wanted to capture in my shot patience would then often come into play waiting for that smile, for the view to be clear of Unwanted distractions, the sun to shine at the right moment. With that in mind keep your eyes open and be ready, digital photography is fantastic allowing you to take many shots at no cost and experiment.
