Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in a village called 'Çavu?köy' in Merzifon, Turkey. I am an amateur, self-taught photographer who embarked upon the vessel of photography in 2006.

Time

It was a cold winter afternoon when I went out of my grandparents' old village house. After it had snowed for a couple of days in April, I wanted to take a chance to soak the sun into my bones and energize my soul as well as my body.

Lighting

I get most of my greatest pictures when I do not try to organize or arrange anything. This shot was taken in such a moment: when I was out and had my compact olympus camera with me, I felt the urge to take a picture of my eye (eyes have always aroused my curiosity). The sun shone on me brightly however, it had a direct angle on me.

Equipment

This shot was taken with an Olympus C315-Z. It is a compact camera with optical zoom features. There was no tripod or flash involved in the shot.

Inspiration

Well, I have always been fascinated by eyeshots as I indicated above. I aimed at taking the best eyeshot I could. At the time, I was suffering from major depression which provided me with a great source of creativity and motivation for expressing myself.

Editing

I did editing on white balance, brightness and contrast as well as some colouring (applied magenta blue).

In my camera bag

Well, for the past two years, I have been a lazy person and do not carry anything with me except for my smartphone (such a shame). But I normally carry a Canon 450D and a telescope lens (90-200 mm).

Feedback

It is favoruable to take a shot of this kind in great light (preferably direct sunlight). On the other hand, high contrast is important in revealing the details of the eye, and hence the reflections.
