Inle Lake, 13.5 miles long and 7 miles wide. This stunning lake is rapdily being consumed by tourism, but in contrast to the modern traveller outlets, the traditional practices of the Intha Tribe are still in full swing. Staying in Nyaungshwe for 3 days, we ventured onto the lake with local fishing canoe boats several times. The best times being at sunrise and sunset, where local fishermen can be seen rowing with one leg and reeling in nets with the other! The lakes marshes are home to hundreds of stilt-housed villages, floating gardens, pagodas and the 5-day-market with Intha, Shan, Pa-O and Danaw tribes all selling local produce and souvenirs.
