Walking along the Ghats of the River Ganges in Varanasi, India, really is quite the surreal experience. On one side, you have markets, food-stalls, music, burning-incense and art graffitied walls and street cafes. To your other side, you have the most sacred place in the Hindu world for cremating (if your family can afford it) the dead. Evening candle lit rituals are held throughout the year with chanting, singing , performing all under candle light as the current of the mighty River Ganges carries away the remains of those Hindus lucky enough to finish their journey in Shivas City of Light.
