Behind The Lens

Location
I took this at a friends wedding that I was photographing in Autumn 2014
Time
The photo was taken late a night, outdoors so that there was very limited ambient light to deal with
Lighting
The only lighting was a single flashgun on a remote trigger placed on the opposite side of the subject
Equipment
Canon 5DIII, Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art, flashgun + wireless trigger
Inspiration
I went outside when the wedding party had calmed down and noticed that the area outside where we'd done photos earlier in the day was now in complete darkness. I then had the idea to see if I could produce a silhouette outline to tell a story without really showing anything
Editing
A slight tweak to clarity and contrast and converting to monochrome
In my camera bag
2x 5DIII's used for weddings + 7DII for action. Sigma 35 f1.4 A, 50 f1.4 A, 85 f1.4. Canon 17-40 f4, 100mm IS macro, 70-200 f2.8 IS II, Sigma 120-300 OS HSM
Feedback
A silhouette shot like this is taken in such a dark conditions that autofocus is impossible and even manual focus is tricky to see, so I asked the groom to hold my phone between them with the screen on and facing me so I could use my liveview to manually focus to the correct distance
