Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the basement bathroom of my sister's old country farm house.

Time

I took this photo late afternoon.

Lighting

I used a flash due to the lack of natural lighting in the room. Aperture f/5.6 Exposure Time 0.0166s (1/60)

Equipment

I have a Nikon D3000, and used a Nikon SB-600 Speedlight and a Nikkor 18-55 mm lens.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo due to an online photo challenge that I was entering. The theme was "Fear". I had several ideas, and my sister was willing to pose and act the part of a woman in distress. I wanted something different; something that would convey a fear deeper than most of us feel during a lifetime. Being trapped for what seems to be an infinite period of time was the look I was going for, and I wanted an expression of hopelessness and insanity.

Editing

Post-processing was fairly simple. I desaturated and added a bit of grittiness to the photo.

In my camera bag

I own a large camera bag and normally carry: Camera; Nikon D3000, three lenses; Nikkor 18-55 mm, Nikkor 55-200 mm and a Nikkor 50 mm; Flash; Nikon SB-600 Speedlight, 3 camera batteries and a charger; several general filters and a HOYA ND 400.

Feedback

The key to this shot was the dilapidated condition of the bathroom. The peeling paint and grime added to the texture, contrast and mood of the photo. The expression on the model's face and her body language gave me the shot I was looking for.
