This photo was taken on an overlook off the interstate near Mars Hill, North Carolina. At the time, I had only been practicing photography for about eight months. I now am almost at the two year mark. I am mostly self taught and enjoy photography as an art form.Time
This photo was taken in late afternoon during early August. I remember it well. My daughter and I took turns pushing my grandson, who was in a stroller, up the steep incline. That was quite a task and we were both pooped by the time we reached the top.Lighting
While I did like the original image, I decided to make it more dramatic by replacing the sky. This photo was taken on quite a nice day...,nothing like what is depicted in the photo. I happy to share that I have sold two prints of this image at local art shows.Equipment
I was shooting with a Nikon D3200 and a kit lens. No flash or other equipment was used.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the beautiful mountains in a unique way. I knew I would try some significant post processing as that was my learning focus at that time. I spent a lot of time during that vacation (my parents live in that area for 6 months of the year) practicing photography and honing my skills. It wasn't until I ret home that I started post processing any images.Editing
I significantly changed this photograph through post processing. I changed the photograph from color to a black and white image. I then used post processing software to select and then replace the sky.In my camera bag
My main camera at this time is the Nikon D7100. This camera is fairly new to me and I sm enjoyed the "upgrades" compared to the Nikon D3200. I carry a 35mm prime, 85mm macro, and a 55-200mm telephoto lens most of the time. These three lenses cover most situations. My favorite shots are "up close and personal" and I am hopeful to purchase a lens with more zoom capabilities in the future.Feedback
I like to consider many of my photographs "photo art." With small post processing changes a photo can go from good to WOW. Try to think outside the box. Imagine what your subject would look like at different times of the day and during different situations. Have fun and be creative.
