Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Fort Morgan in Alabama. This historic fort was an amazing place to visit and photograph. The walls told a story of everything they had seen during the Civil War.

Time

This picture was taken in the middle of the day in the middle of the miserable Alabama summer heat.

Lighting

The lighting in this building was dark but amazing. Their were blown out holes and windows that offered peaks of light in dark places.

Equipment

I shot this with my Canon 6D and my Canon 50 1.8 II. Settings were 1/125, f3.2 with an ISO of 1250. I didn't use a flash or any other equipment.

Inspiration

My inspiration for this photo was the sheer beauty and wonder surrounding this entire fort. I loved how intrigued I felt by the opening, and how it led me to wonder what was through the hole.

Editing

I edited this in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I did basic sharpening and contrast adjustments in lightroom as well as a desaturation. I then opened in Photoshop to add depth using layers and levels.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Canon 6d and a few lenses in my Epiphanie bright yellow bag! I am on a tight budget so I have to stick with budget friendly lenses for now. I mostly use my Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC and my Canon 85mm. I also always have a few Speedlites and a trigger with me.

Feedback

Shoot, shoot and shoot! Take the shot from 10 different angles and levels. Change settings, and do not be afraid to raise that ISO. Most modern cameras can handle high ISO without too much grain. In this situation, grain would not have affected the beauty!
