Location
This photo was taken at the Geysir in the Golden Circle just outside of Reyjkavik in IcelandTime
The lazy sun was just about to set at the early hour of 3:30pmafter only rising at 10:30!Lighting
This was challenging to shoot right into the sun, but waiting for the Geyser to erupt and using the steam to diffuse the light helped get the highlights and some detail in the shadowEquipment
Canon 5d mkII with a 24-105mmL lens This was shot handheldInspiration
While looking at the tourism websites, I saw many photos of the Geysir erupting, but none of the mysterious steamy hole that remained after. The light and the mysterious atmosphere compelled me to take this shotEditing
I shot this photo as a RAW image so had to post-process it to realise it's full potential. Generally, I increased the contrast and saturation and cloned out some distracting spots. In my camera bag
This has changed a lot since I last shot this image! These days my iPhone is my normal 'street' camera Depending on the trip, I carry either my canon 6d and lenses, Olympus OM-D EM5 and the primes Or my new Sony A7s if it's night time.Feedback
Getting the lighting and composition right in cameramen so that you have more to play with in post to make the image 'pop'
