Location
This was taken at the scene of a house fire in a town in northern Utah County, UT. Fortunately the family was on vacation at the time and nobody was hurt!Time
I woke up early one morning to my dad telling me to get out of bed, that there was a house fire just up the street. So I threw on a jacket, grabbed my camera bag and we took a quick drive up the street. The house was already at a complete loss and there were fire departments from 4 nearby cities fighting the fire, so there was plenty of chaos making for some awesome snap shots!Lighting
The lighting that morning was about perfect for this scene. It was hazy and early enough in the morning that the sun hadn't quite risen yet, allowing the lights from the fire and emergency vehicles to stand out, but you can still see the smoke and scene perfectly. This was shot using my Nikon d90 with a battery grip and a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
I am passionate about EMS and was currently going through EMT school at the time, so everything about the scene that day got me so excited i wanted to capture every moment from every angle!Editing
This is a pretty straight forward High Dynamic Range image. I took 3 separate images, each 3 exposure steps apart from the next. I then used Photomatix Pro to merge and process the HDR, and then photoshop to do some fine tuning. I love HDR photos and the detail they bring out!In my camera bag
Im just an amateur hobbyist, so there is nothing exciting in my bag, but I have everything I need to hopefully capture any situation I am in! I shoot with a Nikon D90 and primarily a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. The Lens is so versatile, I love it! I also have a promaster 70-300 macro lens. Its super cheap but it does everything I need it to. I can't forget the nikon 50mm f/1.8 Lens! The fuzzy depth of field is always satisfying. I also have a nikon sb600 flash, and all the other knick nacks you would expect to find in a photography bag.Feedback
Shoot, keep shooting, and take pictures of ordinary things, because the perfect picture can make them extraordinary. For this picture alone I probably have about 50 other similar pictures from separate angles and views. If you take enough pictures some of them are bound to turn out! And take your camera with you EVERYWHERE and take pictures of EVERYTHING. Some of the best pictures out there are un-planned, spontaneous candid shots. You never know when you will capture the perfect moment without meaning to!
