Reminds me of Pink Floyds Ummagumma album cover. I wish I could see a larger size of this shot, so I could see all your different poses. It`s hard to make out. All your work is very creative. You are a talented man.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the back yard of my apartment. The window behind me is from my second bedroom and the mirror in my hand was one I had in my hallway. It was an idea that just came to me.

Time

This was in the early evening after work, I would say around 5pm right at the end of spring time in Illinois. The weather was phenomenal and it was the right combination of light and shadows. There was no additional flash used to capture this image. I took all 3 images that compose this photo in about 10 minutes. It was gorgeous outside.

Lighting

A good tip about lighting when shooting outside is trying to find the perfect gray sky or overcast. This photo was taken completely in the shades, but there was enough surrounding light to keep a fast shutter speed without compromising the shot. Opposed to what many people think, you dont need a bright and sunny day to take great outdoor photos. Overcast, grey or cloudy days are the best for natural light.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D90, 18-105 f3.5/5.6mm lense, a tripod and a remote trigger.

Inspiration

I wanted to tell a story of a person that sees himself from different angles and different perspectives; yet was always the same person. I wanted it to seem like an infinite loop, or that there was a possibility of infinite introspective. Where one can be himself and also can see himself being another person. I think this idea was very thought provoking, intriguing and at the same time and interesting point of view.

Editing

There is some post processing in this image. The first thing was desaturate the image and then run them through some black and white filters of my preference. I use a combination of Alien Skin Software Exposure and NIK Software Silver Efex

In my camera bag

I usually have my 50mm lens in my bag, an additional battery for my camera, a remote trigger and an intervalometer. I also carry my 18-105 lens usually attached to my camera; a lens cleaner cloth, a cable shutter release, a hoodloupe, extra SD cards and usb cable for the camera. I carry at least one speedlight with extra batteries also.

Feedback

The most important suggestion is to be creative and think out of the box. Create the shot in your head and then think of all things you need to make this shot happen. When you have setup ready and you are done with the shoot, think again, change things up, change your angle and repeat the shoot. Turn around, look around, and try a different pose, with a different angle and possible in a different locations. Sometimes it is not the first thing that works best, but maybe your second option or an angle you never even thought about. Don't limit yourself.
