Location
Glacier Park, Montana. That's a view from St. Mary Lake looking west toward the center of the park.Time
Like most photographers I like those golden hours but this was taken much later on one of the last days of June at about 10:30am.Lighting
The mountains in Glacier Park are so steep and sharp that the lighting works even mid day. Had I really known about this view before I came around a corner on a hike and just saw it, I'm sure I would have tried for sunrise or sunset.Equipment
I do like this photo a lot but was quite suprised when it made the finals. I took it with an 8 year old Sony Dsc H9, 8mp. Hand held. I did pace around for ten or 15 minutes to look for just the right spot.Inspiration
My wife and I spent a week in Glacier Park. It was my first time. She grew up in Montana and had be there many times before. So she drove. Every 5 minutes we had to stop when I saw some amazing view I just had to get a picture of. It was a long slow drive that day. The Park is inspiring. I had the camera.Editing
Almost none. Just a little playing with the brightness. In my camera bag
I'm an amateur. I wish I had more equipment. I don't even have a "bag." I have my Sony Dsch9 and a newer Sony NEX. And a tripod. A Go Pro too. That's it.Feedback
Glacier Park is one of the most beautiful places I've even been. I do have a special connection to such places of natural beauty. As an amateur photographer I'm trying a lot of different things (check out my View Bug photos) but I guess its no surprise that the the one photo of mine that made the finals here is the one taken at a place I loved best and felt a real connection to. Shoot what you know, what you love.
