Behind The Lens

Location

Guadalupe Dunes in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County

Time

1pm

Lighting

This was my first capture of the day. I had just got my camera out and was setting up focus manually, the fracas caught my eye and click.

Equipment

Camera: Canon T3i, Lens: Zeiss 135mm f-stop 2.8. No flash, no tripod.

Inspiration

I had wanted to spend a day at the Dunes during the heat of the summer, where the temperatures had been 100+ degrees and the Dunes were a chilly 70.

Editing

Very little post processing, a little contrast and light correction.

In my camera bag

Canon T3i, Lens: Zeiss 135mm, Zeiss 85mm, Zeiss 50mm, Yashica 28mm, spare memory cards and spare batteries.

Feedback

Patience. Wildlife do their own thing and it's best to try to be as invisible as possible. This beach is teeming with birds as it is a protected area. There is a more natural feel and interaction between species. The 135mm lens allows you to get close enough without being too close.
