The Arctic Ring of Life at the Detroit Zoo opened in 2001 & is the Largest Polar Bear exhibit in the World. Arctic Ring of Life is centered around a 300,000 gallon aquarium which is shared by both the Polar Bears & the Seals. The exhibit allows visitors to get a one of a kind view to both the Polar Bears & Seals by way of a 70 foot long underwater tunnel made of 4 inch clear acrylic. There are several clear acrylic walls used to separate the Seals from the Polar Bears, but gives the illusion that they are swimming together. The Seal is the main food for Polar Bears in the wild.
