Ground Zero, in Manhattan, is a place that I can only describe as emotional. Entering the site, you can’t help but become overwhelmed by not only your emotions, but also from those around you. My experience started with anger, which then gave way to sadness and eventually ended in pride. After I endured the emotion, I stood back and watched others in the area go through the same rollercoaster of emotion. I knew that in order to do this place justice, I had to really immerse myself into the emotions and come up with something mammoth. I didn’t want to just shoot a building or the waterfalls; I needed capture the emotion and effort of the rebuilding efforts. I needed to portray the art of architecture for this historic site, which will stand as a patriotic symbol for decades to come. Circling the building, taking in the falls and scenery, I found a scene that I feel does summarize all of the area in one picture...

Reaching into the sky, this steel and glass monument points out into the heavens, and seemingly peaks at the focal point, much like a pier into our oceans. For these reasons, ZERO seemed like a fitting image as it seemingly shows the pathway, that so many took on that morning of September 11, 2001. Pointing to the heavens, the structure seems to remind us to remember those victims, and look toward the heavens as a tribute. This image also highlights the creativity of the architecture associated with the rebuilding of the area; and displays a sense of abstract art, with clean lines and geometrical shapes making a greater structure stand out from it’s counterparts. I could find no other vantage point that did this site due justice, than this spot and angle.

Though I sincerely hope you enjoy this image, I encourage you to go see the wonder in person, and ride the rollercoaster of emotion you are surely to encounter.
