These second print released in the New York series, is of quite possibly the most famous building in the world: The Flatiron Building. I named this image “ICON” as this National Historic Landmark is one of man's finest creations of the modern era.
You may recognize this structure as the Daily Bugle, which was the place of employment for Peter Parker, Spiderman’s alter ego and is used in many other film productions including the TV series “Friends”.
The building gathers its name from the overall footprint, which resembles that of the bottom of a clothes iron. Founded in 1902, it was the first building to use a steel skeleton for fire proofing considerations, rather than traditional masonry. The details of the façade are exquisite, and much like ancient Greek buildings, carvings adorn the structure, and the lower façade is made of limestone, which gives way to glazed terracotta as the elevation rises.
I had to insure that the image is large and intimately detailed enough to give the work an honorable representation of the beauty the fabricators labored so much create. Comprised of 9 separate 21.1mp images detailing individual portions of the apex, this image is so large, that even the details at the top of the apex are neatly captured. When printed as a vertical panoramic print of 20” X 60”, you will see details in the image that are not possibly noticed with the naked eye at the building’s base!
