It was an evening at about 5.20 pmLighting
This picture only used natural window light. From side that is the way it looks so dramatic.Equipment
Nikon D600, 50mm G, F1.8Inspiration
Soft evening light lit her face up from the side. That's why I thought this was a good time and place to take a portrait. We Buddhists always wear white dresses when we visit our religious place. We also wear white at the funerals. She is over 80 years old and a very determined woman. She agreed, and I want her to look sad. So she did. The results are amazing. This photo is not taken at a funeral. But it looks like she in sadness. Her winked face makes it more dramatic. So I named it "after the war".Editing
I converted the photo to black and white. And do some brightness adjustment. And level adjustments. But at that time I don't have much knowledge about photoshop and lightroom. But now Ido. Using that knowledge I have made this photo looks more dramatic. I have uploaded that photo to Viewbug too.In my camera bag

I always look for a natural sidelight that will turn any face into a dramatic portrait. You don't need to use high-end flash to take quilty portraits. Natural light is enough.
