Location
This picture was taken at National Harbor near Washington DC. The ferris wheel is located on the Maryland side of the Potomac river in Prince Georges County, MD. This ferris wheel is a relatively new feature of the National Capital area and has been dubbed the Capital Wheel.Time
I arrived at the location at about 6:00 AM in advance of a convention event and decided to take a few snaps as the sun came out.Lighting
Early morning and late afternoon are always my favourite times for capturing landscape pictures.Equipment
A Nikon D-90 camera with an 18-55mm lens. ISO 200 f/29 1/125 32mm no flash, no tripod.Inspiration
Actually, happenstance and opportunity are the basis of my photography. I rarely have an idea in mind for my landscape or wildlife photography and rely on the random view I come upon.Editing
This image did not require much processing other than a bit of sharpening. In my camera bag
I carry three bodies and a variety of lenses in my kit. Most of my lenses are variable length zoom lenses: 18-55, 200-400, 150-600. I also have a 50mm and an 85mm fixed length lens. Rarely will I use a filter, however, I do have a polarizing and gradual neutralizing filter for my wide angle lenses. As I don't normally do indoor photography, I don't normally carry a flash, however I will if needed. Also, I carry a monopod for the large lens and have a couple of tripods available if needed.Feedback
As I stated before, I rely on randomness and my "photographer's eye" to achieve my shots. However here are a few pointers I can offer: 1. Take the opportunity and time to take many versions of the same scene, walking to different locations to alter the view. 2. Compose your shot within the viewfinder with an eye for balance and composition. 3. Alter your f/stops and shutter speeds on the fly (some call bracketing) in order to make sure you get the correct lighting balance.
