Location
The photo was taken near where I live in Kent, England to try and capture the beauty of the countryside - working in London makes me appreciate living in the countryside.Time
I got up especially early before work to capture this image. I took some of the sunset the night before, but I knew there were better images to be had. So I set the alarm and rushed out the door to capture this. I had been keeping an eye on the fields for weeks waiting for them to harvest the crop.Lighting
I wanted a sunrise to cast the golden light in the sky to add some drama to the clouds and also enhance the colours of the field. The angle of the sun created some nice shadow areas on the field to add something to the image too.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony NEX-6 on a tripod. Focal Length: 30mm Shutter Speed:1/800 s Aperture: f/6.3 ISO: 100Inspiration
I knew the hay bales would make a nice image of the countryside. I had been keeping an eye on the fields waiting for the farmer to harvest the crop and when he did I knew they wouldn't be around for long. I was playing around with compositions and thought this one worked because there weren't too many bails, but the ones that were present were nicely spaced throughout the width and depth of the frame.Editing
All post processing was done with Lightroom as I like to try and keep post processing to a minimum. I had been watching tutorials from Serge Ramelli and I wanted to put what I had learnt to good use.In my camera bag
My favourite lens I own is the Zeiss 16-70mm f/4, which is my default lens. It's nice and sharp and has a great range for every day use - and the choices on the e-mount are relatively small. If I'm travelling light then I just carry that lens a spare battery and my Hoya circular polarizer. When I take more gear I will have the Sony 70-300mm G lens (using the LA-EA2 mount adapter) for the long shots and my Sony 35mm F/1.8 prime for some nice shallow depth of field. I carry the Sigma 19mm f/2.8 prime lens if I want to get some sharp wide angle shots. And I have to carry my Gorillapod so that I have something steady if I need it.Feedback
You need to locate a field that will be harvested for hay and then keep and eye on it and wait for the farmer to bail it up. Then it doesn't seem to hang around for long, about a week or so.
