Location
The story behind this image is almost more interesting than the image itself...almost. This was taken during the Blizzard Nemo we got hit with in Boston. They had shut down the roads and declared driving illegal and punishable by a year in prison and large fines....so we grabbed our cameras and drove into Boston! When I took this photo I was freezing cold and had soggy shoes, as I wasn't prepared for the conditions on such a spur of the moment adventure, I'm surprised I was able to get a clear and sharp shot.Time
This was right around Sunset, as you can see the light in the image and the street lights starting to come on.Lighting
Well to me the lighting is what makes this shot, walking down well known Newbury Street in Boston with this gorgeous beam of golden end of day light beaming down!Equipment
I used my trusty Canon 60D with my walk around 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
As I mentioned, this photo was all about the light, granted there's a lot of interesting elements to the image, such as the other man taking a photo on the right hand side, the bizarre lack of cars on this normally hectic street, but it was that beam of light that pulled my camera to my face.Editing
Of course! I'm a huge fan of post processing and making my images represent what I saw in my mind and how I felt! This image is an HDR blend of 3 images taken, and then processed in Lightroom for tone and contrast. In my camera bag
Normally I have my Canon 60D, my walk-around 18-135mm, as well as my 50mm, 70-200mm, and my 10-18mm. But not this day, I was traveling light.Feedback
Well for this image, I think the appropriate advice is to get out there! Oh, and take chances, as we did by driving when we weren't really supposed to be, but the reward was worth the risk! This is a street I've been on hundreds or thousands of times, but I doubt I'll ever see it like this again, ever. This was historic and magical. You don't always have to take risks, but recognize unique conditions and opportunities to get out there and create something unique and amazing!
