Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken at the Neptune fountain in Berlin last summer. I essentially had 30 minutes to kill between tour buses and the fountain was only a few minutes away.Time
It was the middle of the day, so very even lighting from above, which created those lovely shadows you see.Lighting
There is nothing like natural lighting. Next time I am in Berlin I was to revisit this fountain at dusk or dawn for something different.Equipment
I shot this on my Canon7D with a 18- 135mm lens and a UV filter which will fuse someday to the lens as I rarely take it off.Inspiration
I loved how intricate the fountain was. It was a whole story. I wanted to extract a small part of it and therefore the closeup on Neptune's foot, although the little guy in the back is the main focus. Who is unfocused on purpose.Editing
I editing this in Photoshop using the black and white filter. It was just a little tweaking. I very rarely take picture in black and white these days. And even though I learnt photoshop by doing photo manipulations I do to like over processing my photos. I guess it is because I started taking pictures on an analog camera and did not have much control of the film processing. In my camera bag
I take my 7D with me everywhere (it has been with me to 3 continents). I always take filters. My favourite is a ND gradient filter to get a lovely sky even on a dull day. I have however replaced my bag many times due to wear and tear!Feedback
Try focusing on something other than the subject and finding those smaller details in the world. Also try revisiting places at different times.
