I had originally planned to capture the sunrise with the pier in the foreground.Equipment
At the time, I was using a Nikon D5100 with a Nikkor 18-55mm lens @ 20mm. I used f/22 and stepped down 5 stops for the silhouette and ISO 100 @1/60th sec. handheld.Inspiration
While working on silhouettes, I saw this surfer waiting to enter the water. After capturing a few images and reviewing them, I fell in love with this particular image.Editing
I used PaintShop Pro x5 for slight cropping and straightening. Afterwards, I sharpened and reduced the noise.In my camera bag
I now have a D7100, Nikkor 35mm prime, 18-140mm and 70-300mm lenses. I keep my tubes, Manfrotto tripod, a flash and a ring light for any macro opportunities that arise. I carry a few ND filters and at least 6 32gb cards for RAW shooting. My tablet is a must for instant posting to social media using a wifi adapter.Feedback
Go early and keep your eyes open for the unexpected. Some of my personal favorites are actually accidental or at a certain unexpected moment in time.
