Location
This photo was taken at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.Time
This was taken at about 9:30 in the morning - the sunlight was soft at that time in the morning, which led to this photo being perfectly exposed.Lighting
I wanted this photo to have all natural light, and be appropriately exposed - which it did since it was taken in the mid-morning.Equipment
This was taken with Canon Rebel XTi, using an 18-55mm f/3.5 lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was taking a photography class in college, and we were focused on taking outdoor portraits. While I was walking around with my group, I had to laugh at each time we stopped to take photos of one of our group members, as we all looked like paparazzi. The image of 4 girls pointing their cameras at a girl sitting in a tree seemed like the perfect opportunity to point my camera in a different direction and capture an image of the photographers instead of our model.Editing
Yes, on this image I was trying a new style. I used a soft light filter of the original color photo layered on top of a desaturated version of the image. This left the photo with a nice, soft, low-saturation which left a nice touch. In my camera bag
I of course always have my Canon Rebel XTi, my Sigma 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 lens, my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, an extra battery back, and my remote shutter.Feedback
This was one of those photos that wasn't planned. The advice I have for others trying to capture something similar is to look beyond the obvious. If everyone has their camera pointed at the obvious, you might find the opportunity to shoot something that isn't quite as obvious but may be much more interesting. Keep your eye open and your camera ready.
