This photo was taken at Lake Sonoma, California right after a rain storm. Uncertain weather presents great opportunities for extraordinary light and mood.Time
It was about 30 minutes before sunset. I had already been to the overlook and thought of this shot on my way back. It's one of my favorite places for sunsets because of the location of the sun during sunset most of the year.Lighting
It's nature's best light in stormy conditions! The clouds disperse the light in wonderful patterns and uncover great colors and shadows.Equipment
I use an Olympus E-M5 and shoot in RAW, and develop in Lightroom. This camera has great latitude for a cropped sensor with excellent dynamic range. This shot was a five shot blend using Enfuse. I used a wide angle lens (18mm FF EQ) which stretches the clouds adding depth and height to the visual space.Inspiration
I took six steps out onto this ledge. "Oh God," I remember saying. That's it! You don't have to think these moments... they.. just.. happen. And, I was ever so grateful for it!Editing

For me the important lesson here is to know that changing weather is AWESOME to shoot in. Shoot toward the light and bracket like crazy in case you need to blend the shots later. A tripod is critical to do this type of work and ... sometimes you get wet! Remember to breath the air, touch the ground and listen. Take just a few moments to "feel" the place and remember how it made you feel when you process the photo!
