Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in south-central Wyoming in an area called Aspen Alley.

Time

This was taken around 10:00 AM.

Lighting

Sky was partly cloudy and the sun wasn't directly overhead so it gave it some brightness, but with a softer look.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 60D, using a Quantaray 70 x 300 set at 70. Aperture was 8, ISO -100at 1/200 sec. exposure.

Inspiration

This is one of my favorite areas to shoot. It's within about 2 hours of home. On this occasion I was just trying various angles on the feature and what do you know? Straight on worked best. I also really liked the fire-like quality at the far end.

Editing

Adjusted the contrast a little bit, but that was about it. The colors in this area are really that vivid.

In my camera bag

Doing mostly landscapes, I don't carry a lot. The Canon 60D, lenses 50mm and 18 x 55, both Canon, the Quantaray 70 x 300 which doubles as my Macro lens, circular polarizers for all 3, Neutral density filters for the telephoto and 18 x 55.

Feedback

I spend more time composing than anything. I like natural framing and really prefer not to have to crop the image. I usually shoot just a touch darker than would be called for. I feel it brings out more color.
