Congrats on a wonderful image. Love the look of the water and the position of the person.

Location
Off the ship HMNZS OTAGO on it's way back from an Antarctic patrol. When we had crossed into a warmer climate, the Commanding Officer, decided to stop the ship and called a "Hands to bathe" where ship's company were invited to jump into the water.Time
It was in the afternoon on a bright sunny dayLighting
Not much to share, other than I had to juggle to make sure my shutter speed wasn't too fast.Equipment
Just a simple canon 600D and 18-55 mm lens, nothing fancy.Inspiration
I wanted to practice panning shots and after photographing sailor after sailor jumping off the ship, I managed to capture this one.Editing
Yes, I used Photomatix for HDR post processing. In my camera bag
Canon 600D, tripod, filters, speedlite and plenty of batteries.Feedback
I am assuming that most people are not posted to a ship, so maybe try a swimming pool or like environment. In terms of the the actual photo, I used shutter speed of 1/320 and a smallish aperture f11. The smaller the aperture the more likely you are to get your subject into focus. As your subject jumps, follow them with your camera and just as they hit the surface, "click." It goes without saying, you'll may need to do it a number of times to create the desired effect. As far as post processing, Photomatix is a great and intuitive application to use. I created three copies of the same photo and bracketed them at +2 to -2. But you can play around with the settings. In this case, I wanted to bring out the blue in the water. Was really surprised to be featured, given the talent on Viewbug, but was pretty stoked when I was.
