Behind The Lens

Location

This was a very impromptu photo taken on my deck of my house. I had just got my old (but then new) camera and wanted to capture everything I could

Time

Was captured mid afternoon. Approx 3pm

Lighting

This is all natural light. No flashes, or studio lights used.

Equipment

Canon 70D Camera, a kit lens and that is all

Inspiration

I had just upgraded my camera and wanted to shoot everything and anything. The cat featured is Ollie and at the time was 20 years old. Capturing him was rather important as we wanted to create memories. He happened to be walking up the deck as I was laying down to take a photo of our other fur baby. Timing is everything in any capture and this one was perfect timing. The photo is one we treasure still as he passed away 1.5 years later.

Editing

There is no post-processing at all

In my camera bag

My bag chops and changes depending on what I am shooting and whether I am shooting for future composites or not. On average though I carry the Canon 70D,Canon 5D MkII, Canon 1.4 50 mm prime lens, 35mm Sigma Art prime lens and a Tamron 70 - 300mm lens. I have an external flash, spare memory cards, business cards, batteries and a card reader

Feedback

Be patient, timing is everything in any image. Whether it be a portrait, a landscape or just a general capture, patience and timing is the key. Don't rush to take the image, allow yourself plenty of time to set up and prepare yourself for the shot. Animals can be difficult to photograph at times, taking your time and getting them comfortable with you and the gear is a must. Treats also help !
