Location
This photo was taken just outside the tiny town of Phlox, WI. It is very dark there and it is usually where I setup my telescope.Time
I work nights so this was taken on my way home from work around 11:00pm.Lighting
Perfect lighting for a night sky shot like this is no lighting at all. The darker the better.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 1100D with the stock 18-55mm f/3.5 lens at 18mm. A tripod is a must for long exposure. 20 second exposure at 1600ISO at f/3.5.Inspiration
I was originally planning on taking some shots of the Milky Way but though it appeared very clear, as the photo shows there was some slight cloud cover. This shot was the result of just playing around.Editing
Very minimal post-processing. Played with the exposure a bit as well as Hue and saturation. In my camera bag
Only things I usually carry with me are the camera with the 18-55mm and a 75-300mm lens and the tripod. I like to keep things simple.Feedback
For night sky pictures try to get to the darkest areas possible. Try to get the best focus possible. Use the lowest ISO you can get away with.
