This photo was taken during a rare filling of the great salt pan called Lake Eyre in South Australia. The fishing pole was being used for a PhD project studying the effects of sexual dimorphism on brain evolution of the Ctenophorus genus of lizards At it's end is a small noose rather than a hook to catch these small lizards (unharmed of course!). In this case, the target was the Lake Eyre Dragon, a small dragon lizard that manages to survive in the inhospitable salt crust.
