Location
This photo is a composite. It's part of a story in pictures called "Letter in a bottle" which contains 29 images. That's one of them. The model has been photographed indoors as outside was too cold at that time of the year. The background consists of about 10 other images which I photographed in different times of the year.Time
The model has been photographed indoors. The backgrounds have been photographed at late afternoon.Lighting
As this image is a composite lighting has to be consistent in all images that form the final result. All backgrounds have been shot at the same time of day (late afternoon) when light is soft. The model has been photographed with 1 key (softbox) and 1 fill light to mimic the same conditions.Equipment
I used an old Canon camera which is not manufactured anymore. The focal distance was about 24mm at f8.Inspiration
I love working on photo stories and this image was part of a story in pictures called "Letter in a bottle": http://lazarovphoto.com/story-letter-in-a-bottle.htmlEditing
I combined the backgrounds and the photograph of the model together and applied a slight orange color filter (using a Curves layer in Photoshop). I manually painted longer hair on the model as she had about 8" shorter hair. The smoke is also manually painted. In my camera bag
As for the machines I use — It all depends on the assignment. Overall the most valuable equipment is not in my bag but between my ears.Feedback
Don't be limited by your gear. A camera can take a beautiful photograph if you know where to point it. It's a soulless machine which can't do anything if you don't command it to. Even with old equipment one can create great photographs. Ideas are the most expensive asset in my bag. So should be in everyone else's bag.
