Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot in front of my house on the front lawn in Winchester Ct

Time

It was about 6:25pm during the summer months. The sun was just going down and was gone behind the trees about 20 minutes after the shot.

Lighting

This shot was taken with natural lighting just before the sun went down. The sun was shining directly on him from the direction he is looking.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 50mm F1.8 lens set to F2.2 and ISO 200. Aperture priority. Handheld at 1\100 sec.

Inspiration

In this shot we were playing around with a new cowboy hat and the lighting was just about as good as it gets. Once he was no longer conscience of the camera he just started to become himself and thats when it happened.

Editing

I used lightroom to process this photo. I converted it to B&W, cropped it, added a bit of contrast and darkened the left side of the photo near his backside.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000 body, Lenses consist of 35mm f1.8, 50mm F1.8, 85mm F1.8, 18-200mm Vr, 80 200mm f2.8 and a 35-70mm f2.8. All lenses are Nikon brand. Two sb600 flashes, sb800 and sb700 and various filters which I seldom use. My absolute favorite lens is the 85mm F1.8 lens and second the 35mm F1.8. I have come to love fixed lenses

Feedback

This is my Grandson who has loves being a subject. He is 7 years old in this photo and my best shots of him are when he forgets there is a camera, and just becomes himself. Here he was just taking in the rays of the sun. If there is one thing my grandson has taught me its to let the subject create the magic. All I can do as a photographer is just capture it.
