The photo shoot was completely spontaneous. It happened to be around sunset and when we saw how beautiful the sun was setting we decided we needed to get some shots! Most of the photos were very silly, but this one stood out to my friends and I.Lighting
I made sure that my models were against the sun so we could get a nice shot of the sunset and simultaneously create a silhouette. All lighting was daylight and no artificial lighting was used.Equipment
Because the shoot wasn't planned I actually just used and old iPhone 4. It's amazing how much a smart phone could actually compete with professional cameras!Inspiration
Mainly the sunset inspired me. But I also new the girls were dancers and were able to jump high while doing an elaborate pose. I decided to take advantage of all of this while I could!Editing
Whenever I take shots of sunsets, I brighten the darkness and bring up the saturation a bit to bring out the beautiful colors. Its very simple editing that really changes the way a sunset photograph looks.In my camera bag
I'm always on the move so I only ever have my Nikon D3200 and whichever lens I choose that day. Most times I use a 55-200 mm lens.Feedback
Have your models do the same thing over and over. Especially because it's a mid air shot, every photo will come out different. Timing is very important so have everyone count to three at the same time to get a simultaneous jump and capture. Finally don't stress about the pose being perfect. The girls leg on the leg was initially a flaw but these "flaws" give the photo personality!
