I took this picture in Bodega, California during my day trip to the ocean in January 2013. The church sat on top of a little hill overlooking Bodega City.Time
This picture is one of my all time favorites. As a self taught photographer, I was incredibly ecstatic how my picture turned out. I took this picture around 5 pm as I was driving home through Bodega City, California. Knowing the history of the town, I had to stop and capture its beauty. The church is 115 years old.Lighting
Lighting was perfect due to an incredibly beautiful clear day. It could not have been more of a perfect moment.Equipment
I used my pride and joy. My Nikon COOLPIX P500 camera. F-stop f/4.5 with an 1/800 sec Exposure time and ISO speed of 160. Unfortunately I did not have my tripod with me so I had to try my luck at steady hand. Luckily I was successful.Inspiration
Going to Bodega, I knew I wanted to find this church. The town has a claim to fame in the movie world. The church and the school house was in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 movie The Birds. Knowing that I could capture a piece of movie history, I went searching.Editing
I originally took the picture in color, however I knew I wanted to change the picture to a black and white toned look. I wanted the picture to resemble the feel of The Birds movie as well as its 115 year history. I used a black and white sepia to tone down the brightness and give it a more "dreary" feel.In my camera bag
I am a simple photographer. All that I need in my bag is my camera, extra batteries, charger and my notebook. my second bag holds my tripod and hand held stabilizer.Feedback
My advice for anyone wanting to capture a structure pic would be to look at different angles. The right angle can really justify and enhance any picture. Also, when taking your picture consider the story you want to perceive to your audience. Most of all, enjoy your passion!
