Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken a couple of years ago at a UK Air Show - Duxford Air Show which takes place every year. Duxford Aerordrome comes under the auspices of the Imperial War Museum and is in Cambridgeshire, very close to the M11 motorway.

Time

This would have been in the afternoon.

Lighting

Natural light.

Equipment

Canon camera - Canon EOS Kiss X6i - which is, I believe the Canon 650D (I don't have the camera anymore. I don't recall the lens as that isn't recorded on the properties data. The settings are and it was at f8, 1/400, ISO 100 and 109mm. The focal length leads me to believe the lens was probably 50-250 or something very close. I rarely use a tripod.

Inspiration

I have always loved the Red Arrows. They always put on an amazing display and draw crowds to their displays. I liken them to Concorde, no longer in service of course but always a plane that drew your eyes skywards no matter how many times you saw it. The Red Arrows have the same fascination.

Editing

I do very little post editing. Usually a crop, sharpen and colour fix especially if its a bit grey and the sky has had an unwanted effect on the image.

In my camera bag

My bag seems to be getting heavier now. I have two cameras, EOS 6D and EOS 70D. The EOS 70D is now a standby camera. In the past I would have sold a camera when I upgraded but decided against it this time. It was a wise decision as I needed it only recently when I was covering an event and the EOS6D decided to go on strike! Both cameras have twin battery adapters and I carry ten batteries. Two lenses - both Sigma, using a 50-500 on the EOS6D and a 28-250 on the 70D. Spare memory cards, lens cloths - and business cards!! The bag now weighs 10kg!!

Feedback

Patience, keep shooting and for moving subjects remember to pan. It took me a long time to get that into the memory bank for moving subjects.
