Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Portugal, where I wans doing my Erasmus + programme. I visited the city tower and just before I climbed up all the stairs, I saw this photo before I took it.

Time

It was around 10:30 am.

Lighting

The stairs are always highlighted with a yellow light, so you can see where to step while climbing the stairs. But before you turn in the direction of the door leading out on the top of the tower, you can see the blue color comming in from the outside. And the two colors, yellow and blue, make the perfect color combination.

Equipment

I have a Nikon D600 and three lenses. The Nikkor 24-85mm, f/3.5, I hardly use anymore, since I bought Nikkor 50mm, f/1.4 and Tokina 16-28mm, f/2.8. I try to use natural light as much as possible, because for my work I need it the most (architecture and interior photography).

Inspiration

The interesting thing that draw my attention was the lines of the stairs and than the color contrast. Also the structure of the wooden ceiling was playing an important part here. I was inspired by the stair lines in order and the lines of the wooden ceiling pointing in a different directions.

Editing

Actually, I just lightened a photo a bit, added some contrast and sharpness.

In my camera bag

I carry around my Nikon D600 body and two lenses: Nikkor 50mm and Tokina 16-28mm.

Feedback

Look for the lines, where they point, where they take you. And pay attention to the light. Sometimes it can be an interesting element added to the photo!
